[00:00:01] Speaker A: Chapter 8 becoming questions who are the people in your life that God has positioned you to influence?
What are the issues, causes, or injustices that pull at your heart?
What are the dreams, activities, or desires that stir up hope and joy in you?
What is the next step for you to pursue your discipleship?
You might have noticed by now that discipleship is not something that can be fit into a curriculum or program. It is a life of pursuing intimacy with Jesus and being formed into his image. In this we find our purpose. This Becoming Journey is really just the initiation into a life of discipleship.
The topics covered over the last few chapters are questions you can continue to come back to as you grow and experience life. They will continue to help you see yourself honestly and align your heart with truth. The most important thing for you to do now is to actively pursue discipleship. This means having close relationships with people who can share wisdom and advice. It also means taking what you've learned and sharing that with others who are not as far along in the journey as you. It might mean identifying the passions or burdens God has given you and deciding what you can do each day to pursue those things in an impactful way.
At New Life, we have three things we'd like to invite you to.
1. Join a life group. This is every believer's next step. We cannot get through life alone and remain spiritually and emotionally healthy. We certainly cannot become who God created us to be without a faithful community to grow with.
2. Start a journey of deeper heart.
Explore the Enneagram. Begin counseling. Find a close mentor who will ask you hard questions. Ask your life group leader about the stages of the journey. Do something to intentionally continue your discipleship through pursuit of heart change.
3. Start using your gifts to serve others. Worship Band Welcome Ministry Blessings in a Backpack Women's Resource Center Foster Care International Missions There is something that God has given you passion and gifting to do. It might seem as outlandish as going overseas or as mundane as making new people feel at home on Sundays. Whatever it is, resist the urge to.
[00:02:23] Speaker B: Sit on the gift God has given you. Make the most of it and the Holy Spirit will use it.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Our closing prayer in the Becoming Journey is that which Jesus taught us to.
[00:02:32] Speaker B: Pray in Matthew 6, 9, 13.
[00:02:35] Speaker A: NIV Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: On earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen.
