[00:00:01] Preface how to Use this Book this book is meant to be an introduction to the basics of following Jesus. [00:00:09] Like any endeavor a person pursues, we never outgrow the basics of discipleship. In the following pages, you'll find the foundational truths and practices that the life of a Christian is built upon, in addition to tools to help you navigate the difficult seasons we inevitably face. [00:00:27] Each chapter begins with a set of questions. Here's the best way to use them. Write down your answers to the questions in a journal or notes app before you read the chapter. These questions are here to establish a baseline so that we can notice where we actually are and then notice what Scripture actually teaches. We recommend re examining your answers at the end of each chapter to notice if anything has changed. [00:00:55] This book is best used with another person. We highly recommend that the chapters be discussed with a friend, mentor, or with your life group. As a church, we preach through the basic ideas of this book regularly. You don't need to wait until you hear it to go through the material, though. We have found that we grow as much when we lead someone else through this content as we do when we go through it ourselves. [00:01:21] As with all personal growth materials, this book will be exactly as helpful as we can be. Honest and vulnerable the journey of discipleship is a journey we choose to take. It doesn't just happen to us. If we put in the effort, the Holy Spirit meets us in the process. That's good news. Let's jump in.
